The Seniors Section is a relatively large section with over 200 members, and our aim is to provide golf in an atmosphere that balances a competitive edge with an opportunity for social interaction. The section is open to all male members aged 55+ with handicaps from single figures upwards. Every effort is made to encourage people to reach a standard of golf, combined with knowledge of the Rules of Golf and etiquette, that allows them to participate in our golfing activities as seamlessly as possible.
Our regular Thursday Golf is played over a range of formats (see below) and attracts large fields sometimes exceeding over 100 entrants. A singles knock out for the Hunter Cup is played during the summer and a pairs Better Ball competition for the Bostic Shield in the winter. We play a Medal on the Thursday of the first week in the month and an individual Stableford on the Thursday of the third week of every month with prizes in each of three Divisions. In the summer months these competitions are played from the White Tees. On the other Thursdays of each month, we play a wide variety of pairs and team competitions (social golf).
In July we play for our most prestigious Trophies. – the 36 Hole Seniors’ Championship, incorporating the 36 Hole Veterans Cup for those 70 and over and the Seniors Cup for the best 36 Hole Nett Score.
Sign up for all competitions is managed through the MasterScoreboard computer system, where competition results and individual performance records can also be viewed.
Between April and October we play friendly matches against other Clubs in the local area. They are played as match play Four Balls. These are very friendly occasions, and include players from the full range of handicaps.
Traditionally the Captain organises an Away Day and a 3-day Tour involving two nights accommodation and three rounds of golf.
The Section holds a Seniors’ Open in early June.
